PAST- O - RAMA
another Sega systems emulator

02/01/2001

Just fixing the site after the recent re-upload of the System16 site and to remember you that i'm still looking for a logo for p-o-r :)

15/12/2000

Well i think it's time to give some news of the Past-O-Rama front :)
I'm sorry for the lack of news, but these last times i was very busy with my work and life. So i don't have progress much with the emulation. I've started a complete recoding of Past-O-Rama (again) and i just get "Safari Hunt" working (wooohoo).
"Rock'n bolt" fix is on the way, and i hope to release an near 99.9% (with the roms released by Sms power) compatibility SG1000 emulator for version 0.03. My other aim is to speeding up things a bit.

I'll surely add more users friendly features , redefinable joypads , multi Bpp support in Windowed mode , ... but it'll depend on my time.

More important thing, i'd like to get a logo and a icon for Past-O-Rama (i'm not a good drawer :) ).
i'm mainly looking for a logo suitable for :
- the webpage
- the emulator itself ( about box or the main window )
- a desktop icon (32 x 32)
So if you have some time and drawing skills ( i'm missing both :) ) , i'd pleased to hear from you.

And finaly, i've added a message board, feel free to post any suggestion for improving Past-O-Rama :)

Thanks

Ooh, Great news everyone,

I'm on vacation :) and i've redone the site, and it must be easier to load. But the real news is that
Past-O-Rama v0.02 is now available. You can get it here or at the download page.

I've rewritten a great part of the emu and the interrupts behavior are not far to be right.
So now yamato and exerion are running very well.
It still last "Rock'n Bolt" and "Safari hunting" which have troubles.

Here's the news list :
- code mainly rewritten (ddraw, dinput, dsound, program logic)
- added the load and save of multiple states
- Player two is emulated (keyboard and joypad)
- save states and roms paths are saved
- possibility to choose the sound rate (warning : game is reset)
- can enable or not the sound
- automatic detection of the RGB format (565 or 555)
- configuration is saved to an ini file
- added keyboard shortcuts (thanks to Stephane Dallongeville from Gens)
- can use or not the backdrop color for the borders in fullscreen mode
- add on screen messages
- changed the speed limiter, now the emu runs really at about 60 fps.
This can give a great speed improvement on older video cards
- Title of the roms'll appears in the window title bar
- some other things that i can not remember

After some beta test, it appear that P-O-R doesn't run right under NT. The problem is related to my directsound implementation.
So if you want absolutly to play with it , you have to disable the sound in the ini file. For this, change this line in por.ini :

[sound]
enable=no

and the emu'll run ... i'll look to fix this.

By the way,
because Past-O-Rama is quite advanced for the SG-1000 emulation. I've decided with Franz to start the Megadrive conversion of one of my favourite Amiga game : "Rick Dangerous".
It doesn't means that i stop working on Past-O-Rama, but, i'll work on both depending on my mood :)

The project is called Generick .You'll find more informations on the Generick project page.

And finaly, a tip for one of my favourite SG-1000 game, after some play with Bomb jack , i got this screen,

Do the "cheat" at the title screen (with the both joypad) and look at your right, you can now choose up to the 50th round ;)

Have fun

Great news everyone,

We have a special release today, it's a brand new SG1000 emulator for Windows called "Past-O-Rama". Why bother again with a new SG1000 emu, are you thinking ? Well , i'd like to write an emulator and because i'm a Sega freak,i've started with this rather unknow Sega system (in europe). During the dev period, i've discovered what a nice system the SG1000 is. Even if the video capabilities are rather poor (no scrolling hardware, 16 colors,...) the games are really cool ! Such classics as Qbert, Galaga, Zaxxon, Ninja princess, Bomb jack, Hero, Choplifter, Wonderboy are really nicely ported and have a great fun factor.

The emulation is not perfect, but the compatibily is quite high. For the few roms that i've tried (+-40), i get only troubles with :
- Yamato ( slowdown : bad interrupt handling )
- Exerion ( slowdown : bad interrupt handling )
- Rock'n Bolt ( sprites priority but playable )
- Safari hunting ( crash )

Finaly, i'd like to thanks ShinobiZ for helping me a lot and for hosting Past-O-Rama even if it's not a Sega arcade emu (for now ?)

Have fun
